This development in Bali began in 2010 when we obtained an amazing piece of rice paddy land in the mask carving village of Mas, Ubud. A dream of co-creating an eco/culture-friendly neighborhood (The Giving Tree Bali) of villas with a healing arts center and organic gardens was put into motion. In congruence with the natural beauty and village culture, we began to design according to spiritual practices while keeping as close to eco friendly building methods as possible. Before beginning the first villa we honored the land and locals by participating in ceremonial activities – moving the Dewi Sri (rice) Goddess into her own temple, which we designed with a wonderful lotus pond surrounding it as an offering to the local people. Clean up of garbage in the small river that runs through the land was also one of the first tasks in creating this harmonious relationship in the village. Villa Azure is the first to be completed in this venture and part of the proceeds of its sale will provide funds to continue the longterm vision of The Giving Tree Bali. This project is made possible through a long term local friendship between our business partner I Wayan Sucipta and Christian Fletcher. Sucipta not only over saw all the development details, but lives right next door with his family and is a prominent figure in his community. He now care takes the property and facilitates the relations of house staff, necessary meetings and rental of the property.
